Important things to remember when blogging ...

Some are new, some are not. Some serious, others seriously funny. There are all types of bloggers in the Cincinnati Women Bloggers and each one gives a unique and welcomed voice.

Knowing this diversity and range of experience, I thought the following article was appropriate. As a newbie blogger, it's a good place to start. As an established blogger, it's a good reminder.

I am a new believer of Gary Vaynerchek. Gary is a self-made millionaire and web 2.0 genius! I stumbled across his site the past week and fell in love with his daily video blogs (vlogs anyone?). The energy Gary instills in the listener is unbelievable! Check out his site if you haven’t. You will not regret it!

My “social media circle” on FriendFeed, SmallerIndiana, and Twitter have been talking a lot about the secrets to blogging. What should be the reasons to blog? What kind of content do people want to read? Should you cater to an SEO type system?

Gary posted a great video about his opinion on How To Build a Great Show on the Internet. He relates building an online show to the likes of a blog or podcast. What I loved so much about the video is Gary completely destroying the glitz and glam aspect of social media

From Gary (semi-paraphrased by me):

“All that glitz and glamor is horse crap. It is not about the camera I use. It is not about the high-tech blogging software you use. It’s NOT! It’s not about the widgets. It’s not about the SEO

It is about Content and Community.

It is about giving from your heart on topics you understand.

Simply brilliant. Gary comes from the hardcore tactics of posting daily, responding to every reader email, and always being involved in the conversation. Content and Community should always be on the front burner of goals associated with business and personal blogs. If you start a blog strictly for SEO purposes, go ahead and join the ranks of lifeless posts.

If you care more about your bottom line than helping and joining the COMMUNITY behind your brand… Go ahead and send out an e-newsletter. Don’t waste your time with a blog.

Women Sites and Blogs are Growing!

Advertisers Flock to Women-Focused Sites and Blogs: Marketers See Product Opps Galore in Fastest-Growing Category

Sites aimed primarily at women, from "mommy blogs" to makeup and fashion sites, grew 35 percent last year — faster than every other category on the Web except politics, according to Internet traffic measurement company comScore. Women's sites had 84 million visitors in July, 27 percent more than the same month last year, comScore said. Advertisers are following the crowd, serving up 4.4 billion display ads on women's Web sites in May, the NY Times reports.

What does this mean for Cincinnati Women Bloggers? And for everyone else out there competing for 'eyes' on the Internet? Sure, we have more competition. But as I've featured on my site (Girlfriendology) recently, women are often more collaborative and supportive. So, we do things like start a group called "Cincinnati Women Bloggers" to educate new bloggers and to form a community for all of us to learn, share and inspire.

If you don't have a blog yet, start one. If you're in Cincinnati (and, sorry guys!, a woman) come join us this Saturday for our meet-up at 10am at the Bean Haus in Covington. Have a voice. Join the other 36 million women in the blogosphere (and growing). It's a great way to connect, record your thoughts/lives and share. See you Saturday!

p.s. Saturday we're fortunate that Michelle Lentz will talk with us about the power and uses of Twitter. She knows her stuff and we'll all learn a lot! I just made a contact on Twitter and was on a national radio show last week. It can be powerful! Come find out more!

Cincinnati Women Bloggers in the News Vol. 1

Here at Cincinnati Women Bloggers we'd be remiss if we didn't shine a spotlight on area women bloggers who are making the news. This week we highlight Julie Niesen, author of the uber popular local food blog, WineMeDineMe (in Cincinnati).

Just in case you missed it, Julie was interviewed by Maureen Jacob, a reporter with one of our favorite e-mags, CincyChic.com. In the article Julie, who also blogs at the Cincinnati Blog and at DittoChic, talks about how Wine Me Dine Me (in Cincinnati) came to be as well as the movement of women in the blogosphere. She even gives a little shout out to the Cincinnati Women Bloggers group!!

It's Official.

To even out the driving, we are having our July 26th meeting at Coffee Emporium in Hyde Park. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. but it's informal so feel free to show up when you can. We'll be chatting about experiences and learnings from PodCampOhio and BlogHer.

PS. You are not crazy, I am. I did say Awakenings in the Centered.com poll. I apologize.

Question Regarding the July 26th Meeting

I spoke with the Coffee Emporium in Hyde Park about hosting our July meeting. They said that if we get there by 9:30 a.m. we should be able to grab 3-4 tables upstairs. Apparently they start getting pretty busy around 10 a.m.

What do you guys think of this? Does 9:30 a.m. work? Should I look for a place with guaranteed seating?
